Kawartha Veterinary Emergency Clinic (KVEC) is a an accredited emergency animal hospital. Our doctors have years of experience treating serious conditions.  Beyond first-rate pet care, we make our clinic comfortable, kid-friendly, and calm, so your pet can relax in the waiting room and look forward to meeting our technicians and  veterinarians.

  • Dr.
    Debora van der Meulen

    After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1994, Dr. Debora van der Meulen practised mixed (large and small) animal medicine in mid-western Ontario for a few years, before moving to the Kawartha Lakes area. In 2001 Dr. van der Meulen changed her practice scope exclusively to small animal medicine, and in 2009 she discovered her love for Emergency Medicine. Dr. van der Meulen is excited about bringing her enthusiasm for emergency medicine closer to home at KVEC. She looks forward to helping the people and pets of the Peterborough/Kawartha/Cobourg areas.  She resides in the Millbrook area with her husband, 2 cats and her German Shepherd Rhea (pictured here).

    Kathleen Norman

    Dr. Kathleen Norman, a graduate of the University of Guelph (B.Sc.) and Ontario Veterinary College, is very passionate about her profession. Having grown up with a variety of pets and a family of animal lovers, veterinary medicine was her natural calling. Dr. Norman has been a board member of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association since 2006 and is a founding executive member of the Kawartha Veterinary Association. Dr. Norman feels strongly about giving back to the community. She donates services and time to the local humane societies and various rescue organizations as well as actively participating in various charities. In her spare time, Dr. Norman is an avid golfer and outdoors enthusiast and enjoys travelling, scuba diving, downhill skiing and hockey.

    Melanie Dell

    Dr. Melanie Dell is originally from Bowmanville and is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College. She has been working in general and emergency practices since graduation, and has travelled to Costa Rica to participate in spay/neuter campaigns. She is also currently on the board for the Durham Region Vet. Association and is actively involved in continuing education. Dr. Dell has always been passionate about the performing arts, and has completed the world’s highest level graded stage performance in ballet. Dr. Dell is excited to be joining the team at KVEC and to be helping pets and their owners in the Peterborough/Kawartha areas. She currently lives in Whitby with her husband, daughter, 2 dogs, and 3 cats.

    Sandy Jones

    Dr. Jones has been practicing in small animal and emergency clinics since graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1996. She spent several years working in a large emergency practice in Edmonton, Alberta where she developed a love for emergency medicine and critical care. Dr. Jones lives in Peterborough with her husband, daughter and 3 pets ­ a dog named Skipper and 2 cats named Beckham and Minnow. In her free time, Dr. Jones enjoys spending time in the outdoors camping and canoeing with her family and hitting the trail for a long run.
