Euthanasia Services

Goodbyes are never easy. This is especially true when it comes to our furry family members. This is a painful time for all pet owners, and we want you to know our team will be with you through every step of the process. For patients with terminal illness or chronic pain no longer responsive to treatment, euthanasia is the most humane option. Please reach out to us at 705-741-5832 if you wish to learn more about our euthanasia services.

Who decides if my pet needs euthanasia?

You will always have the final say. Veterinarians will start the conversation about end-of-life-care depending on the extent of your pet’s injuries or their quality of life. It is always the last course of action we take, after making use of other options. We will give you and your loved ones time to consider which path will work best for you.

How do I know if it’s time to say goodbye to my pet?

Difficult as it may be, it is a good idea to assess their situation in an analytical way. There are medicines and tools we can use to keep patients alive, but simply existing does not mean they are having a rewarding or comfortable experience. If your pet can no longer breathe, or eat without intense medical intervention, then it might be time to consider euthanasia.

How does pet euthanasia work?

The veterinarian will administer a drug (via IV) that makes the patient lose consciousness and all sensation. Then, it causes their organs to shut down. It is completely painless and takes a few minutes from start to finish. Most hospitals use a medicine called pentobarbital for the procedure. Afterwards, you will have complete say over how you want your pet’s remains to be handled. Cremation and burial services are available in our community. Please let us know if you would like to consider these and other options. We will be happy to connect you with trusted service providers.

Can I be with my pet when they are being euthanized?

Absolutely. You can choose to be by your pet’s side and hold them until their final moments. On the other hand, if that is too painful for you, our technicians will make sure your pet is comforted until the very end. Our euthanasia room is in a quiet and private area of our clinic. We will give you plenty of time to say your goodbyes.
